Can you trust the government to tax marijuana fairly???

A "fair marijuana tax" is an oxymoron????

How did the Feds make drugs illegal to begin with

Look I know you Libertarian say there is no such thing as a "fair tax", just like there is no such thing as a "fair armed robbery" or a "fair rape", but please hold on and read the piece before you make any more comments. Do you think the rather low tax rate of a one and three quarters percent tax or a 1.75% on marijuana is a "fair tax"?

I am sure that if George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were around today they would think a stinking one and three quarters percent tax or a 1.75% on marijuana is was an outrageous rip off.

Remember that lousy one an three quarter percent tax on tea the British created? That louse one and a three quarter percent tax on tea caused the Americans to over throw the British Empire because they thought it was outrageous.

I am sure Thomas Jefferson and George Washington who both grew marijuana would also think that a stinking one and three quarters tax on marijuana would be outrageous. Most people think that Federal govenrment passed laws that made drugs illegal.

It didn't happen that way, what the Feds did was pass laws requiring drugs to be taxed and they then stopped issuing the tax licenses for people to manufacturer, sell and use the drugs. And that effectively made the drugs illegal.

Feds made drugs illegal by taxing them

The two main laws that initially made drugs illegal were
  • "1914 Harrison Narcotic Tax Act"
  • "1937 Marihuana Tax Act"
Notice that both of those laws end in the words "Tax Act". And that is because both laws indirectly made drugs illegal by taxing them.

Feds used tax laws to make machine guns illegal

Drugs are not the only thing Congress has made illegal using tax laws.

In 1934 the Feds passed the National Firearms Act which effectively made machine guns illegal by slapping a huge tax on them.

In those days you could buy a machine gun from the Sears Roebuck catalog for $10.

The National Firearms Act slapped a $200 tax on machine guns which cost $10 in 1934, effectively making machine guns illegal, by making them two expensive for normal people to afford.

Income tax goes from soaking the rich to soaking everybody

The way Congress got Americans to pass the 16th Amendment which allowed the the Feds to tax income was by selling it as a very small tax to soak the rich and get rich folks to pay everybody else's bills.

The first US income tax in 1913 only applied to rich people making $3,000 or more a year, which in 2013 dollars is about $50,000 to $60,000 a year.

The first US income tax started out at as a 1 percent tax and maxed out at a 6 percent rate.

Congress even thought that if the tax ever hit 10 percent that would be outrageous and debated about capping it at a maximum of 10 percent. Sadly that never happened.

Of course if you fast forward to 2013, the crooks in Congress now ask people that make minimum wage to with hold 10 percent of their income for their potential income tax liability.

Remember I say initially Congress thought it would be outrageous if the income tax ever hit 10 percent.

I just Googled the Federal Income tax rates for 2012 and they started out at 10 percent for people that made up to $8,700 and skyrocketed to 35 percent for people that made $388,350 or more.

The bottom line is you can't expect government rulers to tax anything fairly.

You can bet if you allow the government to tax marijuana, it will start out as a small tax and over time grow into an outrageous tax!

Kyrsten Sinema's outrageous 300 percent tax on marijuana

A perfect example of outrageous taxes on marijuana is the 300 percent tax on medical marijuana proposed by Arizona Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema.

Kyrsten Sinema didn't even start out with a low reasonable tax as government tyrants usually do. She instantly jumped to a 300 percent tax on medical marijuana.

And Kyrsten Sinema bills herself as a freedom fighter who looks out for the little guy.

Can you imagine what a government tyrant like Jan Brewer or Russell Pearce would tax marijuana at. I suspect it would be many times Kyrsten Sinema's proposed 300 percent tax on medical marijuana.

No as long as government is full of self proclaimed Freedom Fighters like Kyrsten Sinema you certainly can't expect the government to tax marijuana fairly.

Tobacco smokers, bend over the government is here!!!

If you are a tobacco smoker in Arizona you certainly know what it feels like to be shaken down by the government for taxes.

In Arizona every time you buy a pack of cigarettes for $xxx the state of Arizona shakes you down for $2 in taxes.

You know better then most folks that if the state of Arizona is going to rob you every time you buy a pack of cigarettes, they will almost certainly rob you for just as much every time you buy a bag of legal marijuana.

If Kyrsten Sinema's 300 percent tax on medical marijuana had passed every time you buy an ounce of pot for $100, you would have to hand the state of Arizona an additional $300 in taxes making that bag of weed that costs $100 cost $400 after taxes. liquor taxes
