Clay Thompson says give up your Constitutional Rights!!!!!

Clay's great on writing funny columns, but seems to be a supporter of the police state and tells you give up your 5th Amendment rights and answer police questions!!!!

Of course any defense lawyer will tell you to ignore Clay's advice and refuse any and all police questioning.

Avoiding Brandy’s email, and avoid brandy on the road

I just had an email from someone named Brandy, who said she’d had a good time the night before and she hoped I had enjoyed it as well.

A couple of problems here: I don’t know anybody named Brandy, nor do I believe I would want to. Second, I don’t remember having an especially good time the night before. I had a nice dinner at home and read for a bit and went to bed. I can be a bit forgetful at times, but I’m pretty sure there wasn’t anybody named Brandy involved.

So I think maybe it was best that I just deleted that message and instead turned my attention to this matter:

The protocol when stopped by the police is to stay in the car and let the officer approach. That seems questionable, as the officer does not know who is inside or what conditions exist.

It seems it would perhaps be safer to have the driver exit under armed surveillance. I exited the car when stopped and the officer got upset. Is there some law about stop behavior?

A law, I don’t know. but there is some common sense. If you get out of your car when stopped, the officers might not be quite sure what you intend to do.

Stay in your car, leave both hands on the wheel. The officer probably is going to approach you from a bit behind the driver’s door so he or she has a good view of what’s going on in there.

And whatever you do, don’t be putting the bad mouth on the officer. Just answer the questions, own up to anything you did if you did it and hope to get off with a warning.

Being sober helps.
